Family matters kept private
Details about both families stay confidential.
Your partner is not Indian, and your parents are in India
You met in graduate school. She is from Ohio, or he is from Brazil, or their family came from Korea. In New York nobody finds it remarkable. Your parents in Hyderabad or Ludhiana heard the name on a video call and went silent. They had imagined someone who could speak to your grandmother. Now they imagine losing you to another world.

A software engineer tells his parents in Pune about his American girlfriend. His mother asks if she eats beef. His father asks if she knows that in their family people do not divorce. Neither has met her. Both are frightened that their grandchildren will not know who they are.
For parents in India, a foreign spouse can mean a child who will never come home, grandchildren raised without language or faith, and a daughter- or son-in-law they cannot talk to. Stereotypes fill the gap where knowledge should be. Your partner, meanwhile, may not understand why approval matters so much to you.
A consultation helps you prepare both sides for each other. Any astrological element is optional and may not be meaningful to your partner. We promise no outcome.
Food, faith, divorce, grandchildren, your return to India.
Why family consent matters, and what would show respect.
Language, festivals, visits to India, decided between you.
What your parents have asked, and what you and your partner have agreed. The main service page describes the consultation.
How the consultation worksAnswer with your partner's actual character and family.
Explain that it is fear of the unknown, not a judgement of them.
Prepare both sides. Keep the first call short and warm.
Explain to your partner what your parents fear and what small gestures carry weight: a namaste, a few words of Hindi or your language, interest in the food and festivals. Explain to your parents who your partner's family are, what they value, how they treat you.
Start with short video calls, then longer ones. If you can, travel to India together and stay long enough for ordinary life to happen; a week of shared meals changes more than a year of argument. Tell your parents plainly how you intend to raise children and keep them connected to India. A wedding with ceremonies from both cultures often brings relatives round.
The session is online and fits around New York working hours and Indian time zones if your parents join. We listen to all sides. Birth details are optional.
Many do after getting to know the person. It takes time and cannot be guaranteed.
Say that you are an adult choosing freely and that your parents' blessing matters to you emotionally.
It needs their date, time and place of birth. It is entirely optional.
Describe concretely how you will pass on language and traditions, and involve the grandparents.
