Information, not control

Your in-laws say you have done something to their son
He agreed with you about moving out, or about money, or simply took your side once. Since then his mother has been telling relatives that you have put something in his food, that you visit a peer, that you have him "tied". You have been searched for amulets. In some families in Birmingham, a wife's influence is still explained as sorcery.

A young wife discovers that her sister-in-law has gone through her wardrobe looking for a taweez. At a family gathering an aunt refuses food she has cooked. Her husband laughs it off. She feels watched in her own home and does not know how to prove a negative.
Accusing a daughter-in-law of magic is a way of denying that a grown man has made up his own mind. It can remain gossip. It can also become a pretext for isolating, humiliating or harming her. Either way, it is not something you can disprove by argument, and you should not have to.
A consultation gives you a place to describe what is happening and to plan your response. We take no part in accusing or 'testing' anyone. Prayer for your own peace is optional. Where there is risk, we will point you to protection.
Talk only, or searches, exclusion, threats, demands for 'treatment'.
He must say clearly that his decisions are his own.
Your own family, friends, and services if needed.
National Domestic Abuse Helpline 0808 2000 247, or 999 in an emergency. The main service page explains how a consultation is arranged.
How the consultation worksYou cannot disprove a belief. Do not submit to tests or rituals.
Tell him how frightening it is and ask him to speak to his family.
You may refuse. Forced 'treatment' or any harm is abuse.
Ask your husband to tell his family, in plain words: "I decided this. Nobody has done anything to me. The accusations must stop." Coming from him, it is the only statement that can end it. If he will not, that is a serious matter between the two of you.
Tell your own family or a trusted friend what is being said. Keep a note of incidents. Do not agree to be searched, to drink or eat anything given as a cure, or to visit a healer. If you are threatened, confined or hurt, call 999 or the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. Abuse linked to accusations of witchcraft or possession is recognised by UK police and services.
The session is online and confidential; join from Birmingham somewhere private. We believe you. Birth details are not needed.
You cannot prove a negative and need not try. The responsibility lies with those accusing.
You are free to refuse, and we would advise against submitting to any test.
Sometimes. It can escalate. Tell him how it affects you and watch for changes.
No. We do not take part in such accusations.
